Mr. Zincedile Monde Tiya is a distinguished South African attorney, legal leader, and governance specialist based in Mthatha, Eastern Cape. He is the founder and sole director of Zincedile Monde Tiya Inc. Attorneys, a law firm that provides legal services in Road Accident Fund (RAF) claims, medical negligence, claims against the Minister of Police, criminal law, divorce and family law, and municipal law. He isĀ
recognised as one of South Africa’s emerging legal leaders, with a strong commitment to the transformation of the legal profession and the advancement of constitutional democracy.
Mr. Tiya was born in Ngangelizwe, Mthatha, in the Eastern Cape. He attended Khanyisa High School before pursuing tertiary studies at Walter Sisulu University (WSU), where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts (BA)
in Translation and a Bachelor of Laws (LLB). He later enrolled for a Master of Laws (LLM) degree at WSU. To broaden his leadership capacity, he also completed executive programmes in Thought Leadership for Africa’s Renewal and Political Economy of Africa at the Thabo Mbeki African Leadership Institute, University of South Africa (UNISA). His Practical Legal Training was completed through
the University of KwaZulu-Natal and the University of the Witwatersrand.
Following his admission as an Attorney of the High Court of South Africa, Mr. Tiya established Zincedile Monde Tiya Inc. Attorneys, where he leads a team of candidate legal practitioners. Under his leadership, the firm has built a reputation for providing quality legal representation to individuals, businesses, and public institutions, particularly in litigation involving personal injury, constitutional rights, criminal justice, and municipal governance.
Mr. Tiya has played an active role in the governance of the legal profession. He has served on the National Executive Committee of the National Association of Democratic Lawyers (NADEL) as International Relations Officer, helping strengthen relationships between South African lawyers and legal organisations across the African continent and beyond. He has also represented South Africa as a Council Member of the Southern African Development Community Lawyers Association (SADC LA) and has served in several structures of the Law Society of South Africa (LSSA), including the House of Constituents and various specialist committees dealing with criminal law, legal education, legal aid, pro bono services, and foreign qualifications.
In addition to his professional practice, Mr. Tiya has served on the Investigations Committee and Disciplinary Committee of the Legal Practice Council (Eastern Cape) and has acted as an examiner for the Competency-Based Examinations for admission as an attorney. He has also contributed to public governance as Deputy Chairperson of the Valuation Committee of the Eastern Cape Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA).
Mr. Tiya has a longstanding record of leadership beyond legal practice. He is a former President of the Student Representative Council (SRC) at Walter Sisulu University and a former President of the Walter Sisulu University Convocation Alumni. He is also active in his faith community, serving as a Church Warden within the Anglican Church. His career reflects a commitment to ethical leadership, professional excellence, access to justice, and the transformation of South Africa’s legal profession.
