Ms. Savera Maharaj is a South African attorney and the founder and principal of Savera Maharaj Attorneys, a law firm based in Umkomaas, KwaZulu-Natal. As an admitted Attorney of the High Court of South Africa, she has established a practice providing legal services in civil litigation, deceased estate administration, conveyancing-related matters, family law, and general legal advisory

services to individuals and businesses in the KwaZulu-Natal region.

Throughout her career, Ms. Maharaj has developed particular experience in the administration of deceased estates. She regularly acts on behalf of executors and beneficiaries in matters before the Master’s Office, with numerous appointments reflected in theĀ 

Government Gazette. Her firm has also participated in the Law Society of South Africa’s National Wills Week, providing free will-drafting services to members of the public as part of a national access-to-justice initiative.

Ms. Maharaj is an active leader within the National Association of Democratic Lawyers (NADEL). She has served as Chairperson of the NADEL KwaZulu-NatalĀ 

Branch, where she has led programmes focused on legal education, professional development, community outreach, and the advancement of constitutional values. In this capacity, she has also supported the growth of young legal practitioners and student chapters, including overseeing the annual general meeting and elections of the NADEL Student Chapter at the University of KwaZulu-Natal.

Her leadership extends to the regulation of the legal profession. Ms. Maharaj has served as Chairperson of the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Council of the Legal Practice Council (LPC), contributing to the governance of the attorneys’ and advocates’ professions, the promotion of ethical standards, and the strengthening of public confidence in the legal system. She has represented the profession at public events celebrating the role and achievements of women in law and has consistently advocated for greater diversity and transformation within the profession.

In addition to her professional responsibilities, Ms. Maharaj is committed to community service. Through NADEL, she has organised and participated in humanitarian initiatives, including fundraising and relief efforts for communities affected by disasters in KwaZulu-Natal. Her work reflects a dedication to social justice, public service, and ensuring that legal professionals contribute meaningfully to the broader community.

Ms. Savera Maharaj is widely respected for her professionalism, ethical leadership, and commitment to access to justice. Through her private practice, leadership within the Legal Practice Council and NADEL, and her community engagement, she continues to make a significant contribution to the development and transformation of South Africa’s legal profession.
